What are waist beads?
Waist beads are a feminine tradition found in various cultures across Africa. In Ancient Egypt, women wore several layers of waist beads called girdles. Today, waist bead wearing is probably most popular in West Africa, especially in countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal. The beads symbolize beauty, femininity, spiritual protection, seduction, weight monitoring, and waist shaping. Today waist beads are commonly worn for fashion as well.
All of our waist beads are made by hand in Ghana, West Africa.
